Materials

If I am making an item to your specifications I will discuss your preferences for materials but Just For Ukes/Victoria Stott will have the final decision about the appropriate materials for each project.

It is the customer’s responsibility to inform me of any particular materials you would like to be avoided or used.  For example, in the case of allergy to wool, the need for vegan supplies or the importance of an easy to wash fabric.

Safety

The items I make for musicians are not play things.  It is important that they are only used for their intended purpose and always with care and common sense.

Straps

It is the customer's responsibility:

  • make sure instrument straps are a comfortable fit for your body.

All straps are adjustable and most come in 3 widths.  Some are padded and some are not

If I am making a custom strap for you, I can adjust the width, the length and the amount of padding to suit you

  • to ensure the strap is suitable for the size and weight of your instrument

  • to attach the strap safely and securely to your instrument

  • to check your strap regularly for signs of wear and tear.  Do not use your strap if you are unsure it will support your instrument

I recommend the use of a rubber strap lock if you have strap button(s).  If I have them in stock, I will gift you one strap lock with each strap you purchase.

NB the note below about fancy accessories also applies to fancy straps

Gig Bags

Gig bags are soft, padded bags intended for everyday situations such as club night, gigs, festivals ...  They will buffer your instrument from gentle knocks but are not intended  to protect in the way a hard case would.  They should not be used if there is a chance the instrument could be mis-handled or roughly-treated. For instance, for long-distance travel, air travel or if you are unable to supervise their handling

It is the customer's responsibility:

  • to choose a bag that is suitable for the size and weight of your instrument

  • to ensure the bag is not over-full and too heavy for you to carry safely

  • to lift with care and carry as intended - using and positioning straps and handles appropriately

  • to avoid carrying any bag if you are injured or feel discomfort or pain

  • to ensure the bag is closed and the closure is working and strong

  • to use additional padding if your instument needs extra support - for example a neck support cushion

NB the note below about fancy accessories also applies to fancy gig bags

Accessories

Accessories are attached to your instrument at your own risk. I take great care that the accessories, if used correctly, should not damage the instrument to which they are attached.

It is the customer's responsibility:

  • to attach any accessory safely and securely

  • to use only in the intended way and position

  • to check accessories for wear and tear

Fancy accessories, straps and gig bags:  many of the items I make are complex little pieces of art.  They may be made using wires, beads, paints, inks, threads, sequins, charms, toy parts and other embellishments. If there is a specific risk this will be made clear on the label but just-in-case ALL ACCESSORIES, STRAPS AND GIG BAGS whether fancy or not, should be kept well out of the reach of children and pets and away from naked flames

General

It is the customer's responsibility

  • to store your items appropriately when not in use

out of direct sunlight

in a dry, dust free place

out of the reach of children and pets

  • to check over carefully before each use

  • to use appropriately

  • to use with care and common sense

  • to pass on the link to this safety information if you sell, gift or donate your item to anyone else

Deposit

If I am making you a custom order I will nearly always ask for a deposit to confirm your order.

Work will usually start no later than 14 days after the clearance of a minimum deposit.  We are legally obliged to give you this length of time to change your mind.    If you would like us to start earlier we can do but you should be aware if you then choose to cancel we cannot refund your deposit once the project materials have been ordered.  This does not affect your right to a refund if the item turns out to be faulty or mis-described.

The minimum deposit will be agreed to cover the cost of materials and postage or to be 15% of the final price.  You may also pay the full amount before work begins if you prefer.
